EdgeRed partnered with a fast-growing Australian telecommunications business to build their data analytics capability from scratch — delivering an audit-compliant Microsoft Fabric platform across two structured phases in under 60 days, with the internal team fully self-sufficient on handover.
The Challenge
A fast-growing Infrastructure & Telecommunications business needed to build an analytics capability from the ground up. Data was fragmented across multiple source systems with no unified platform and limited internal data expertise — the organisation couldn’t scale its reporting or support data-driven decisions at the pace the business was growing. They needed a strategic partner to define the right platform, prove value quickly, and set the business up for long-term self-sufficiency — without creating ongoing dependency on external consultants.
What We Built
EdgeRed partnered with the client’s leadership team to define and deliver the strategy in two phases — both within a unified Microsoft Fabric-native solution.
-
Platform strategy & technology selection
Assessed the client's existing Microsoft environment and defined a data strategy aligned to their growth trajectory — validating Microsoft Fabric as the right fit before any build began -
Phased value delivery
Phase 1 delivered a working report on Fabric with medallion architecture and Power BI integration — proving value quickly. Phase 2 matured the platform to audit-compliant, production-ready standard with full Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and a complete Salesforce data model -
Audit compliance & governance
DEV/TEST/PROD environments, version control and deployment workflows established to meet audit requirements — giving the business a defensible, auditable data platform -
Internal capability & self-sufficiency
Documentation, runbooks and structured knowledge transfer delivered — enabling the client's internal data engineer to independently manage, extend and scale the platform after handover
Technology Used
- Microsoft Fabric — unified analytics platform; OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Factory pipelines
- Power BI — reporting and self-service analytics layer
- Azure DevOps — CI/CD pipelines, version control, DEV/TEST/PROD deployment workflows
- Salesforce — source system; full data model ingested and modelled
- Medallion Architecture — Bronze/Silver/Gold data layers for structured, audit-compliant data quality
The Outcome
The business went from no analytics capability to an audit-compliant, production-grade Microsoft Fabric platform in under 60 days. Governed pipelines, full CI/CD infrastructure, and DEV/TEST/PROD environments were delivered across two structured phases — with a self-sufficient internal team able to independently manage, extend, and scale the platform from day one. No ongoing dependency on external consultants.
