8 Oct 2025

We’re excited to share that EdgeRed has been invited to speak at the CyberCX Lounge at SXSW Sydney 2025 on Monday, 13th of October, 2025.
For those new to it, SXSW is one of the world’s leading festivals celebrating the convergence of technology, innovation, music, and culture. It’s a global stage where bold ideas are launched, and we’re proud to be part of the conversation.
As part of our session, we’ve invited esteemed guests across several industries to talk about how AI is reshaping their industries. This won’t be theory or hype – it’s about practical, real-world use cases of AI, and what businesses can learn from them.
To start, Healthcare is one of the most promising, yet complex, frontiers for AI. From supporting clinicians with faster insights, to creating better training and patient safety programs, the opportunities are huge. But success depends on balancing innovation with trust, ethics, and evidence.
Meet Dr Stephen Barnett, CEO of Medcast.

Dr. Stephen is a leading voice in digital health, combining his clinical background with a passion for education and technology. At Medcast, he’s helping transform the way healthcare professionals learn and deliver care, ensuring patients benefit from safer, smarter systems.
Dr. Stephen Barnett is a healthcare leader at the forefront of the intersection between healthcare, education, and technology. As Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Medcast, he has built one of Australia’s leading medical education platforms, serving over 100,000 registered health professionals with innovative learning solutions. His work is driven by a vision to create large-scale change in the healthcare system through education and technology.
Beyond Medcast, Dr. Barnett is a General Practitioner and Co-Owner of Highlands General Practice, a thriving clinic with 25 doctors delivering 70,000 episodes of care annually in the Southern Highlands community. His deep clinical experience informs his work in healthcare education, ensuring that learning solutions are practical, engaging, and evidence-based.
An experienced clinician-researcher, Dr. Barnett is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong with an extensive research portfolio, including over $23 million in grants, education, and research projects. He holds a PhD in virtual communities for healthcare professionals and has published internationally on e-learning, GP training, and medical education.
Dr. Barnett’s leadership extends beyond his clinical and academic roles. He is an experienced Board member, having served as Chair of Oxley College (2020-2024), a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), and President of the non-profit Highlands Music Collective.
Currently, his work is hyperfocused on AI in healthcare education, training, and quality improvement. He is leading the development of interactive programs on soft skills and AI for healthcare professionals and exploring the most impactful applications of generative AI in medical education.
With a career dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes through innovation, collaboration, and technology, Dr. Barnett continues to drive the evolution of healthcare education at scale.
Our work with Medcast
EdgeRed has partnered with Medcast to develop AI-powered learning and analytics tools that enhance the way clinicians access knowledge and track outcomes. Together, we’re helping healthcare professionals stay at the cutting edge of patient care in an industry that runs on decisions, with over a billion decisions a week made by clinicians and support staff across the globe.
Yet the reality is stark: only 60% of care is evidence-based, 30% is wasteful, and 10% actively causes harm. This translates to trillions in global healthcare waste and 3 million preventable deaths annually. Medcast is transforming healthcare through AI-powered learning and analytics. Our innovative tools empower clinicians with enhanced knowledge access and outcome tracking, ensuring they remain at the forefront of patient care.
The opportunity is enormous. What if we could optimise those billion weekly decisions by delivering evidence-based answers directly at the point of care? What if the same system helped clinicians meet their continuing professional development requirements while giving organizations secure access to answers tailored to their own policies and procedures?
This vision is becoming reality through MedLuma by Medcast. This AI-powered platform is integrated into Australia’s largest GP medical record systems, reaching 40,000 desktops. Built on a curated, consented Australian dataset of clinical guidelines and premium content, MedLuma provides instant, evidence-based answers backed by comprehensive educational resources from one of Australia’s leading independent medical education providers.
The platform creates a powerful feedback loop: as tens of thousands of healthcare professionals search daily, the resulting data drives smarter policy and service delivery decisions across the entire healthcare system.
MedLuma by Medcast isn’t just improving individual clinical decisions. It’s transforming healthcare decision-making at scale.
We’re thrilled to bring Stephen’s perspective to the SXSW stage and can’t wait to share his insights with the audience.
And once again – a big thank you to CyberCX for the opportunity to showcase these important conversations. As Australia’s leading cyber security services provider, they continue to play a vital role in protecting critical sectors like healthcare.
