Last week, we wrapped up the End of Financial Year (EOFY) in a meaningful way by spending a rewarding team day at Our Big Kitchen (OBK). Here’s how it went...
Introducing Our Big Kitchen
OBK is a community-run, non-denominational industrial kitchen where meals are prepared for distribution to those in need across Sydney. Their mission is to support the homeless, victims of domestic violence, and individuals facing financial hardship by providing nutritious meals. Bringing together volunteers from all walks of life, OBK fosters a strong sense of community and compassion. Last year alone, they produced 120,000 meals for disadvantaged Australians. and compassion.
For us, this event was particularly meaningful as it gave us the chance to give back to the community, bond as a team, and make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
“We not only had a blast cooking with the team, but it was also for a heartwarming and important cause. I highly recommend Our Big Kitchen for team events!” - Sai Malla, Data Analyst
Highlights on the day
Volunteering at OBK was a unique and enjoyable experience, reminiscent of a “Restaurant Takeover” episode from MasterChef. We were warmly welcomed by the OBK team, who introduced us to their mission and briefed us on the day's activities.
Our team was divided into three groups, each tasked with preparing 50 meal boxes for those in need.
During the course of two hours, we chopped vegetables, cooked, packaged meals, and cleaned up after ourselves. In addition to packaging, we plated our dishes for the chef to taste. Afterwards, the chef tasted all of our dishes and picked the winning team.
A massive thank you to the team at Our Big Kitchen for having us! Your dedication and passion for helping others are truly inspiring. This experience not only allowed us to give back to the community but also strengthened our team bonds and reminded us of the power of collective effort.
Melbourne EOFY team activity
On the Melbourne side of things, our team kicked off the afternoon with a delicious hot pot feast. Energised and ready for an adventure, we then ventured to an horror-themed escape room, where teamwork and quick thinking were put to the test.
Solving puzzles and unravelling mysteries together strengthened our bonds and showcased our collaborative spirit. It was overall a day filled with camaraderie, good food, and thrilling challenges.
