As we return from the holidays and reflect on the past year, we’re proud to share one of our final initiatives of 2024 – EdgeRed’s participation in a meaningful food drive benefiting Foodbank NSW & ACT.

A heartfelt thank you to Innowell for organising and coordinating this wonderful initiative. It was a meaningful way to end the year, with our team working together to help provide food access to Australians in need.

The timing of this initiative was particularly significant, as the need for food support in our community continues to grow. In NSW & ACT alone, more than 640,000 households experienced severe food insecurity in the past year, with over 1 million households facing some form of food insecurity. What’s particularly concerning is that 52% of severely food insecure households had adults going entire days without eating because they couldn’t afford food.

Foodbank’s work is crucial in addressing this crisis. Throughout 2024, they sourced enough food for a remarkable 92 million meals, supporting 2,929 front-line charities and 3,220 school breakfast programmes across Australia. Their impact extends beyond just providing meals – they play a vital role in tackling Australia’s $36.6 billion food waste problem and contributing to environmental sustainability. For every kilogram of food distributed by Foodbank, the social return on investment is valued at $23, making their annual community impact worth almost $1 billion. (Source – Foodbank (The Facts))
